Plantar Fasciitis (PF) is a common condition that we treat at Alberta Laser Rehabilitation Centre (ALRC) . Chief complaint is pain on the heel or sometimes the entire foot. Most noticeable in the morning when you wake up as often describe “first few steps are painful”.
Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the thick flat band of tissue that runs between the toes and heel along the bottom of each of your feet and it’s called the Plantar Fascia.
There are factors that could cause heel pain or Plantar Fasciitis.
Weight – obesity or overweight is at risk of developing Plantar Fasciitis. This is due to the increase pressure on the bottom of your foot where the plantar fascia is located. Sudden weight gain could develop Plantar Fasciitis as well. In some cases, women who are pregnant could suffer occasional Plantar Fasciitis specially during the last stages of pregnancy.
Activities -Tightness of the achilles tendon could cause Plantar Fasciitis, long distance runners, people who are always on their feet like very active jobs like factory worker or restaurant staff , people with active lifestyle are on much higher risk of developing the condition.
Shoes – by simply wearing wrong shoes like poor arch support could lead to Plantar Fasciitis.
